I have a Samsung 50 inch DLP tv that went out on me recently with the flashing LED errors in front. I opened up the back panel and took out the lamp and noticed that the lamp was spider web cracked all over. So I bought a replacement lamp, installed it, and the TV worked again for about a half hour and then it shut off with the same LED lights flashing in the front. I took the new lamp out and noticed it had cracked and blown out again. The area of the TV the bulb was facing and touching was extremely hot. So basically I'm guessing the amount of heat is destroying these lamps. My question is, is this a cooling fan issue for sure? Or could it be caused by the color wheel or something else? It might be worth it to me buying a new cooling fan for 20 bucks but not a color wheel or anything that is more expensive. Thanks for any insight!

Color wheel should not cause any of that problem. If you are having issues with the color wheel your picture would have issues and you would hear popping sounds when it is on. I don't know how long you have had the TV or how far from the wall it is. Typically you should have them several inches from the wall to allow better airflow behind it. Also, have you cleaned the fans periodically? After dusting the fans and the inside of the case, if you are still having issues with the lamps cracking, it could be one of three things in my mind.

1. The electric outlet is causing surges.
2. The lamps are all from bad batches.
3. The TV is having electric issues of its own, such as faulty wires.

Only one fan is visible and it is to the left of the lamp in the back panel facing the back of the TV...and I have cleaned that and it seems to be working properly. I am unsure about the other fan though. But the area around the lamp was extremely hot after the new lamp was shattered

I owned a Mitsubishi 3D DLP for a few years. When I first ordered it, when it came I had color wheel issues and after several months of it sitting at a repair shop Mitsubishi finally replaced it with a newer larger model...and have had a few issues with it. Such as picture cutting out from overheating when my wife was watching it, so I cleaned and dusted it, no more problems from that. It had issues with the sound not registering for the correct input also, and we would have to switch the input to another and then back to get it to register correctly. We also had issues with power loss in town, and the TV would do the flashing power LED until it was unplugged for a while and then plugged in again.

We sold it recently because we really did not get much use out of it anymore. I have had a lot of other TVs over the years and experiences a wide range of TV issues, some that can be fixed easily at home, others not so much.
