Hi,

So I want hopefully soon getting a new PC and was wondering the following;

Is water cooling dangerous?
Will I need to change out the water every so often?
Is it harder to fit in a water cooler vs air cooler?

The water cooler I am looking at is the H100i (It will be my first proper build)

Solution
That's a very powerful build, but with power comes responsibility.

I have a similar build for VFX and 3D dev. (look at my sig) and have H110 Liquid cooler and believe me it works like magic! 40-50C on good CPU usage with heavy VFX softwares (60-70% usage) and doesn't go above 65-70C on OC at 4.5 GHz with heavy usage. I'd definitely go with a Liquid Cooler, and H100i is as good as H110!

You got solid MoBos and RAM as well as a great GPU! Sapphire's cooler won't let temp get too high and they're a bit quiet too.

You have such a good build, don't think about compromising with the PSU. EVGA B2, G2 and P2 are the best PSUs on the planet. Get one. This one's the best for your PC and more:

Depends, water cooling is a good solution but not really necessary, why to spend so much money on H100i when you can get Noctua NH-D14 air cooler for less money and almost same performance. If your looking for overclocking than H100i is a better choice. When you choose your parts make sure to choose the right case for water/air cooling.

Can you please tell us your build?
It'll be easier to decide which one to get. Also, tell us what purpose is your PC for? ie, gaming, streaming, video rendering/ programming, other specific purpose?

And yeah it really depends. The Noctua NH-D14 or D15 are excellent air coolers, arguably the best for that price.
And the H100i and H110 are the best liquid coolers out there.
So tell us your build and purpose and it shall be easier to decide.

To answer your questions.

1. Dangerous... no as a rule. If you do get a leak it can be.
2. No, the units are sealed.
3. Fitting... no harder.

What do you wish to accomplish with a liquid cooler?
For most, it is to get a few more multipliers out of overclocking your cpu.
I might suggest that the $100 might be better spent on a faster cpu or graphics card in the first place.

My canned rant on liquid cooling:
------------------------start of rant-------------------
You buy a liquid cooler to be able to extract an extra multiplier or two out of your OC.
How much do you really need?
I do not much like all in one liquid coolers when a good air cooler like a Noctua NH-D14 or phanteks can do the job just as well.
A liquid cooler will be expensive, noisy, less reliable, and will not cool any better
in a well ventilated case.
Liquid cooling is really air cooling, it just puts the heat exchange in a different place.
The orientation of the radiator will cause a problem.
If you orient it to take in cool air from the outside, you will cool the cpu better, but the hot air then circulates inside the case heating up the graphics card and motherboard.
If you orient it to exhaust(which I think is better) , then your cpu cooling will be less effective because it uses pre heated case air.
And... I have read too many tales of woe when a liquid cooler leaks.
google "H100 leak"
-----------------------end of rant--------------------------

I suggest a noctua nh-D15 or phanteks with dual 140mm fans.
Your pc will be quieter, more reliable, and will be cooled equally well

Ill be using this PC for gaming, recording, and video rendering (for YouTube) here is the link http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/8wBbRB

I might suggest that the price you pay for a H100 could go towards a i7-4790K which is a superior chip, particularly for multi thread usage such as rendering.
The stock clock is 4.0 and 4.4 turbo without overclocking.
I might suggest a quiet tower type cooler. Look to Phanteks or Noctua for some of the best air coolers. One with a 140mm fan would be quiet and effective.

Use low profile ram. Heat spreaders are marketing and get in the way of coolers.

A ssd is great for the "C" drive, but it can fill up quickly. See if you can't manage 240gb. Samsung EVO is very good.

What will you be using for a psu? Look to Seasonic XFX or Antec for better quality.
The R9-290 needs about a 650w psu.
I have no problem overprovisioning a PSU a bit. Say 20%.
It will run cooler, quieter, and more efficiently in the middle third of it's range.
A PSU will only use the wattage demanded of it, regardless of it's max capability.

I have a bit of a concern about the R9 series. They seem to take more power and run hotter and louder than their nvidia equivalents. On newegg, you card has a 19% unfavorable (0 or 1 egg)set of reviews

By comparison, the similarly performing EVGA GTX780 ACX superclock is the most reviewed GTX780 and has only 2% negative reviews.
Yes, it is a bit more expensive.

Also, on a side note, its not required, but will only do you good. Get a 250GB SSD if possible to be Storage proof for any program. It'll cost about 25 to 30 bucks more, no compulsion whatsoever.

Hope this helps.

Btw, Geofelt, I think the RAM he chose will be perfect with an OCed CPU. Do you have any other opinions about it?

Thanks, I picked a 850w power supply because in the future I will cross fire these cards. Also I picked a AMD card because it has 4GB's of memory and I will hopefully have 3 monitors.

Happens!
And you're most welcome :)
