I hear a lot of loathsome stories of how bad rebates are. I've never had to deal with a rebate in my life and I'm curious of how they actually go. I just want to hear tips and tricks from you guys on how to deal with rebates. What should I expect when I buy an item that has a rebate on it? Will some companies fail to pay me back even if I complete whatever transaction they throw at me? Also, how long do rebates take? From the posts I've read, it seems that MIR comes at an arbitrary time just to screw with you. I've got $50 worth of rebates on the build I'm about to buy in August/September and I don't want to lose that money. Thanks.

What was the shortest and longest time you had to wait before getting a rebate?

Pay attention to the dates and submission rules.
Keep your boxes with the upc codes and your invoices. They are usually required.
You will eventually get the rebate, but it sometimes takes a while. Think a month or so.

When I send one in, I make a copy of the submitted materials and where to call to check on status.

I had about 5 unique rebates to do through 4myrebates.com, which is how TigerDirect handles their rebates (and how the parent company of TigerDirect does). My first 3 went well, with no problems. The last two were straight up denied for no reason what so ever. They were done properly and the same exact way as the others, and there was to be no limit on the amount of rebates per household. (each item was different). Maybe they got sick of me.

Now i dont do rebates anymore.

I hate these rebates because you get a prepaid credit card that has a monthly account maintenance fee charged against it if you don't spend it as soon as possible. If you forget you have the card then the monthly account maintenance fee will eventually deplete the card's value.
