Hey guys, so I just want some input from people who have this cpu. What kind of voltages were you able to get a good oc on and what was the general oc limit? Also, where did you generally start the voltage on when overclocking? I just want to get a good feel for where I want to be when I start to overclock mine although I am aware it may be a completely different experience.

How high you can oc a 4790K is largely determined by your luck in the bin lottery.
Remember that the chip runs at 4.0/4.4 turbo at stock.
That is plenty for anybody.
Consider whatever extra you get as a bonus.

Up to about 1.2v you get very little heat buildup.
Past 1.25, heat starts to build up rapidly.
Past 1.30 no amount of cooling is useful since that voltage is as high as you want to go for cpu longevity.

You could start with the motherboard automatic oc options and see how you do.
Another way is to set the vcore at 1.25v max, and gradually raise the multiplier from 40 to where it will not post.

I like OCCT as a tester, It will shut down when temperatures go past 85c.
