Windows 7 detected a hard drive error

I keep getting this error every so often. tried to run a scan but it keeps getting stuck in the same area.

can i save my HD or is it time for a new one?

That means your HDD is beginning to fail. It will become more frequent and worse as time goes on. Make a backup of your system asap and replace the HDD.

i would use the drive maker test tool but save all the data as soon as you can before it completely fail .

well i tested it with HD tune and it said it had 1 bad sector. out of all those little squares, one came back bad

Like I said, it will get worse over time. At the very least create normal backups so that when it does fail you have a copy of your data.

thanks, i did a windows fix and it said it fixed everything, HDtune comes up clean. maybe i got lucky? i'll still back up JIC

you should also use the drive maker test tool hd tune does not tell everything even if this a good software the maker tool is made to read in the hdd firmware for more info on his health .
