i know that dvi doesnt support sound. but i read somewhere that newer gpus can output audio via it's dvi port.

Need to know the exact model of the Sapphire HD7870 (provide a link, please). There may be a two pin audio input port on the card which would connect to an audio port on either a sound card or the motherboard itself. What other outputs are available from your graphics card?

Unfortunately, I'm not seeing any type of audio connection on your graphics card. As another possibility, I was going to recommend a DisplayPort to HDMI cable solution, but I'm not 100% certain it's going to work. I'd want to get the word directly from Sapphire support (if possible) before spending any kind of money on a solution.

Finally, just do what I do with my HTPC, 5.1 surround, and Projector. DVI to HDMI from the HTPC to the Projector and S/PDIF from the motherboard to my 5.1 receiver. If you don't have a 5.1 surround sound receiver, then use a 3.5mm stereo to L/R RCA audio cable (something like this); connecting your PC's audio out to an Audio in on your HDTV.
