Will i7's HT+gtx760 oc give better fps than an i5 with gtx770 oc in the future?

Okay guys...so here is the story: I want to build a new pc and I encountered an issue.

I do not know what to choose between an i5 4690k with a gtx 770 oc or an i7 4790 with a gtx 760 oc.

The reason for this is because I read somewhere that in the future i7's HT will take advantage in games over an i5.

BUT

I am also thinking that a gtx 770 oc is better than a gtx 760 oc and this won't change so it may also give extra fps in the future.

Now, my question is: will games start to use i7's HT so much that with a gtx 760 oc they will give more fps than an i5 with a gtx 770 oc?

I am waiting for your answers!

Best regards!

BF4 is using my i7-920 HT's. I don't think it used to on release so I believe it must have changed in a patch or something. Playing the other night, I noticed. I can't say that I noticed any in-game difference so who knows what they are actually doing.

So, you say that you noticed HT was used...but there were no in game differences?

Correct. My GTX 770 is on a 60Hz monitor and I play on Ultra settings 1920x1080p @ 60 FPS. I have no clue what the workload on the HT's is providing. My guess is not much on my system.

Well this is what I am going to use for my system:

Also gaming on 1080p.

I hope a gtx 770 oc and an i5 will perform better in the future than an i7 with HT and a gtx 760 oc.

What do you think guys?

I honestly think the i5 @ 3.5GHz with a 770 OC will do just fine for a few years. When I picked up my i7, I assumed quality multi-threaded games were right around the corner. Here it is 5+ years later and I have one known game that uses 4 cores + 4 HT's and I can't even say that I notice any benefit on my machine of those HT's.

Maybe if I had a monitor that would give me more than 60 FPS, I could see an increase in frames but, sadly I don't.... yet.

To be honest...and average in bf4 of 60 fps would be okay for me. when you say few years...what you mean?

What I want right now is to play games on high-ultra for a while. Of course I do not expect to play a game in five years from now on ultra...but a low-medium will do fine for that time if I keep this exact configuration.

What you think? Is it possible?

What I mean is in a few years, you might need to upgrade your GPU. That is generally true no matter what video card you use. I believe that i5 will hold its value quite nice for gaming, for the next 4-5 years.

GPU's need upgrading every two years or so to maintain 60FPS @ 1920x1080p in the latest game releases. For me it has been every 18-24 months over the last 6 years or so. You could always choose to lower settings to get to 60 FPS. It is an option. I usually just upgrade my GPU.

Heh...funny fact...I played bf3 on my very-low end pc (1024x768) and I enjoyed it quite a lot, I also got to lvl 45 in about 3 weeks so let's say I'll play a game in 4 years from now on low-medium...that wouldn't be such a big deal.

What I am interested in is if in 3-4 years i7 will perform way better than an i5 just because it has HT.

You might want to change your cpu / mobo choice. h97 gives very limited overclocking if at all.

You would be wasting the monkey on that "k" series cpu.

Also stay far away from non name power supplies if you value your investment at all.

When they go, they can take everything with it.

Hello! Thank you for your answer! Could you give me an alternative for those two components?

Not very expensive though. That motherboard is about 120$ here and the power supply is under 100$ (about 65$).

xfx and evga lines of power supplies are usually very nicely priced, look and see if you can find either of those two as they are top tier quality.

asrock prices their motherboards very good as well, see if you can find a z97.

Could you link to that website?

Sure I can...it's a romanian website but I think you can all find the search bar...since is in the upper middle. You should also know that a dollar in Romania is about 3,31 RON.

Here is the website: www.emag.ro
