why is my nvidia gt 610 not working as 1gb and more like a 512 mb

i got a nvidia gt 610 not to long ago and its working as if it would be a 512mb graphics card. does anyone know if its my computer or i just got a "lemon"

I'm not sure what you mean by "performing like a 512MB card." The 610 is not a high end card though: it's the lowest member of the 600 series. It's not meant to be a high performer. What are you using it for?
