This has been going on for awhile now. I have a 4 year 360 elite and whenever I put a game in it will tell me to open tray and I have to play with it a bit until it finally reads the game. When I put a game it the system will make like a ribbet sound (like a frog I know that sounds dumb) and if it makes one sound it will load but if it makes two ribbet sounds it says to open tray. I've already emptied the cache so I'm at a loss.

Thank you for your help.

It's a sign of a dead/dying DVD drive. Have you cleaned out the tray and the inside of the disk reader with compressed air? Also you might have to buy a new DVD drive for it.

Yeah those drives don't last forever unfortunately. Sometimes it's the drive itself, sometimes it's the motherboard of the Xbox. I've had some luck refurbing those units with a reflow on the processors of the motherboard, but the process isn't for the uninitiated or the faint of heart lol. The lenses tend to go out on those drives and I've had some luck as well replacing the entire lens unit with a working one. Can usually be found on ebay by searching for broken redring xboxs, they usually have good drives in them, but you have to make sure you get one with the right drive :-/

Either way, failure is immenent
