Have you done a virus or malware scan recently?

Does the icon for the file indicate the correct application is being used to open the file? You may need to adjust your defaults.

if you haven't already, try running Malwarebytes - http://www.malwarebytes.org it's free and it does a great job of finding stuff that regular antivirus programs can't. Another thing to try is Ccleaner - https://www.piriform.com/CCLEANER also free and it can clean up your registry and file extensions. Run the cleaner and the registry tabs.

Also what kind of computer are you running? Make, model, specs?

Malwarebytes is a great program, and a necessary supplement to any antivirus program you run. It is designed to specifically target infections that regular AV software can't ID or can't clean properly. I have a set schedule that my regular AV program runs, and I load up Malwarebytes once a week for a quick scan to make sure :-) Glad I could help out and good luck!
