Just got a new laptop the Asus g750 and my internet speed is greatly increased, but only on this machine. On any other device i get normal 6 mbps or less. Any idea on how i can start getting 20+ on my other devices? i have never ever seen my internet so fast before and i cant even begin to under stand why this is. Even when pluged into the modem iv never gotten more then 6.5
getting 3-4 times higher speeds then normal internet plan

lols no i got it connected to my own cant have the same 26 length password and when i first connected i used the refresh button. And there is no internet service in my area let alone town thats higher then 6 mbps. suddenlink is the fastest you can get here. and the house are far apart so the 5ghz band wouldnt even reach

I'm guessing the laptop is relaying information faster then other machines. Sometimes different PC's can get different speeds depending on how fast it processes such information from the router. If I helped mark this as best answer to help others!

No matter how fast the PC might be, it cannot transfer data over the internet any faster than the internet connection is and OP said his internet connection is only 6Mbps so 20+Mbps should not be possible.
If that 20Mbps was on SpeedTest, it could simply be that SpeedTest weirded out for some reason.
If that 20Mbps was while transferring files from HTTP or other protocol with a compression filter in its stack, it could be gzip/zlib compression.
no idea. i just tested it again and this time and got 25 mbps. My desktop has a i7 4770k so by his logic of faster machine i should be getting 50 lols. but for some reason im getting much higher than normal during a speed test and i downloaded 3 games that were over 7 gb each in just a few hours over night. that i couldnt do before on my desktop. These speeds arnt just test going wrong, im actully getting theres speeds and seeing their use in downloads. also my upload speed is the same for all devices at 1.5 mbps
Yes, but a 2006 computer will process that information received slower then the 2012 computer. So Speedtest may actually be testing how fast the information received by the PC can actually save and become usable.[/quotemsg]
well this isnt a pc from 2006. And as i said its not the speeds test thats messing up. I AM SEEING THESE SPEEDS WORK IN REAL TIME FOR DOWNLOADING AND INTERNET GAMING. ITS NOT TESTING SOME NON REAL WORLD INFORMATION. there is some setting on my laptop thats has improved the internet speed. If we can just figure out why my laptop is getting higher speeds than even my desktop maybe this would be useful to you guys as well. cause id love to be able to use my desktop with the kind of speed im getting on my laptop if we could only figure out the reason for it

well internet provider you have and what state. if you have xfinity they double the speed in 4 states.
LOLS!!!!!!!!!!!!! I got a dual band wireless N card for my desktop now im getting almost the same speeds that my laptop does. Il try another dual band AC card on another laptop in the house to see if the AC card is better. For some reason my g750 gets great speeds on both 2.4 and 5ghz, while my defsktop only gets 12-18mbps on 5ghz and the same crappy speeds I normally.

even if it could combine the signals it still wouldnt be as high as 25 mbps or between 10-18 on my desktop. who knows maybe its blocking or going around the throttling servers-. im sure as hell that they could provide us with more than 6 mbps but they dont need to since they are the only cable internet provider for the whole area

i dont know maybe they upgraded you check your bill. or maybe they just improved your service to compete with someone else.

The standard method for cable operator to set speeds is to configure a speed limit on their CMTS and the cable modems attached to it. There is no magical way to bypass that if they configured it properly.
What speed is your internet service advertised at? If your plan was 25Mbps but you were only getting ~6.5Mbps out of it, it could simply be that the cable company recently did a node split in your neighborhood or dedicated a few extra channels to data services.
