My mother brought her old HP Pavilion a1213w Windows XP computer in from another state to have me look at it because she had some kind of virus. She didn't bring her keyboard or mouse with her. I had a Dell USB keyboard and mouse here so I plugged it in. It detects new hardware, and asks me to click "next" to install. Of course, since the drivers aren't installed, I can't hit enter on my keyboard or click next with my mouse. Any way out of this catch-22?

Do you have a PS2 mouse or keyboard floating around? Most of them only need plugging in and a restart before they work.

I'm aware of the nice properties of PS/2 keyboards. That would have been my first choice if I had one. I might even consider buying one for this, but I don't think any stores around here sell them.

While she was here for the weekend, I looked at local stores and couldn't find a PS/2 keyboard. We gave up and she headed home in another state. When she got home and reconnected her old keyboard, she got the same message and can't get past it.
