cant update core i5 drivers

actually im going through a problem here.......i had sapphire 7870 installed in my rig then i have updraded to 7970, but previous 7870 was better in fps.....so i thought to upgrade drivers for my board and cpu
specifications of my rig are as follows:
cpu core i5 750
hard drive 1tb
power supply cooler master 600watts
main board asus p7p55d
ati 7970 sapphire dual x
i shud b better in performance than prev 7870 but games are running even worse on 7970,i dnt know what the problem
