This is my build that I'm putting together, all brand new parts: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/RJbbTW

I have the motherboard running (the start button doesn't work but shorting the power pins does) and the fans for the cpu and gpu are running smoothly. The only problem is that the CPU LED is solid red. I've tried using 0, 1, and 2 sticks of RAM, still red.

I've check the cpu and the pins in the cpu slot at least 5 times but everything is picture perfect. I've checked the pins in the cpu power slot and they're all fine. It's the right 8-pin power coord, I'm sure. I've went through all the checklists and I'm just trying to get my motherboard to show anything to a screen but I can't because of this.

I don't have any speakers and the q-code says 00. Nothing is being outputted to the screen and the red LED only goes away when the CPU Power isn't plugged in. Any help is much appreciated!

I looked up the code 00, and it says that it isn't used. The ROG forums have stated that it means the CPU isn't initialized. I have to go with the manual, that it means nothing. But the red CPU LED isn't up for debate.

You can try clearing the CMOS & reflashing the BIOS, but it is likely a bad CPU.

Did you get this sorted OP???

I have exactly the same issue as OP, mobo and all fans ect running, Qcode stays on "00" during POST/boot and no monitor output. Have disconnected the gfx card, SSD, dvd drive andswapped the ram around to the same result. Checked all power connections ect. Only thing I can do is check the CPU pins now I think.

Is this pointing to nothing, but a dead CPU? Don't want to send £250 worth of CPU away if its not at fault.

Same mobo with I7 4790k

Thanks for any help given.

I thought I had posted my solution a while ago so I apologize for not doing that, but I was able to figure out that the BIOS version that came on the motherboard wasn't compatible with the CPU that I was using (as in the BIOS version wasn't new enough), so I had to flash the motherboard with a newer BIOS version that I downloaded from ASUS' website and then everything worked fine. The CPU was fully functioning and everything. Instructions for flashing a motherboard are in the user's manual for the board.
