well actually Newegg has a great sale right now a radeon Hd 6970 for 99$ which will blow either of those cards out of the water, you may however need a power supply upgrade i am unsure as you didnt give those specs.
Radeon Hd 6970 99.00

If you have a low end or low power power supply then this would be my suggestion. 600w thermaltake 24.99 after 20$ rebate.

124.99 after rebate only 144.99 if you forget the rebate and a much better upgrade.

I was actually suggesting a cheaper alternative and if you look at
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-7870-review-benchmark,3148-6.html
And a 6970 overclocks very very well to ... it performs like a 7870 before OC
and a 7870 performs like a 270X
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-r9-270-review-benchmarks,3669-3.html
So if you can save 50$ and get the same value ... well then why not...
Just we have no idea what exactly power supply he has it may be some off brand 400w
The fact that he currently has a GT620 kinda speaks to that point.
and here at passmark is conclusive evidence that its the best bang for your buck.
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_value.html

So the fact is that a 270x is a 6970 (basically ... says tomshardware ... within 5-10% which could very well be driver optimization) 270x is 175.00$ at cheapest ... 6970 with 3 year warranty is 99.00 ... So its a good deal ... especially if funds are tight ... especially since he likely needs to upgrade power supply as well.

Seems like a pretty good deal to me....
And isn't that the point to help the guy get the most bang for his buck ... if he want something better he will pretty much have to jump into the 280 - 280x range and cough up 185$-249$

I agree , now I got your point and I support your opinion.

Thanks, I just figure its always worth showing people the value oriented segment since, well not everyone can afford the top of the line.

Actually that's what I do, I build Budget Custom Gaming Systems for people (or my company does rather) (we build all kinds of systems actually but we work towards a budget minded consumer more because our prices are roughly 1/3 of the big guys, and 10-15% less than most people could buy and build themselves. (discounts for buying in bulk are nice.) (I can't imaging what the big builders get in markup must be outrageous if I can undercut by as much as 1/3 and still make a profit it must be crazy.)

Have a nice Day
Hope we have been of assistance OP, let us know what you decide to do.
