Hi

I'm currently looking for new hardware, and i'm don't know if i should go with an AMD or Intel.

I have been looking at the FX-8320 (It's only 999dkk = 179,64US $), and i have been looking at the Intel i5-4690K (It's 1599dkk = 287,54US $).

I know that the best is the 4690K, but it's also expensive ..

Currently i have an old i7 860, and i guess my computer is around 4 years so i would like to get some new hardware before i begin to study again.

I have these things:

Blu Ray drive
8GB DDR3-1333 RAM
2 x 750GB HDDs 7200RPM
ASUS GTX 750Ti

I'm thinking of reusing these things, so that does i only need a new mobo, CPU, PSU, case.

But my budget is around 3000DKK which is around 540US $

If you can make a better build for the money that would be great or if you would suggest me something else it's okay :)

Solution
E3 1231 v3 = 1726dkk.
MSI h97 PC Mate = 582ddk.
-----------------------------------
2308dkk -> 692dkk left for case.

Thats ~93€, as I can't find cases on the website you provided and don't know the look you like, I can only make some suggestions.

http://de.pcpartpicker.com/parts/case/#sort=a7

Any you like under 60€ should be well under 700dkk and therefore fit your budget.

What PSU and case do you have right now? Chances are big that you can just keep them.
If you will overclock, you may want to go with the I5 4690k and a z97 motherboard around 120$. Get the left over money towards a cooler like the hyper 212 evo/plus (if they fit!), the one thats cheaper for you and some quality thermal paste (AS5, MX-4, etc).
If you don't intend to overclock, you could go with a 80$ h97 motherboard and the 220$ xeon e3 1231v3. It's essentially an I7 4790 without iGPU.
Or, if you feel like you won't use more than 4 threads at once (no rendering, build software, only few programs open) you can also save some money and go with a h87/h97 board and an I5 4690 (~180$).

Prices might not be too accurate for you, as they depend on where you live. Please add information about your PSU. Nothing in this build will be bigger than your current parts, so you won't need a new case.

The computer it self was a premade from HP,so the PSU is a 460W and the case is a mATX but i would like to get new of both.
Right now i dont have plan to overclock, because i dont want to take the risk

If you don't plan on overclocking, with that GPU, a 460W PSU is enough. Both, the i5 4690 and the xeon e3-1231v3 have a TDP of 80 Watt, which is less than what your current i7 has. I'd personally recommend to keep it until you need to upgrade it - or upgrade right to an as strong one that might handle whatever you throw at it in the future - but that might be out of budget a bit. Let's try it nevertheless.

The PSU is usually 100$, I'm actually thinking of getting it myself now. o_O

And a case of your choice.

So you would say that i should keep my currently PSU?

But the parts you have choosen is total 389.91US $ that's 2158dkk , and the Xeon is 310US $ that's 1726dkk just for the CPU :/

The mobo is 102US $ that's 571,50dkk... That's a total of 528,40US $ that's 2938dkk...

It's going to be used for gaming :)

In Denmark most people are using a website called edbpriser

http://www.edbpriser.dk/

Then you can find all the prices on hardware :)

The CPU and Mobo is 528$ if i take what they cost in DKK and "convert" them into US $ :)

But please take a look :)

What about the new pentium from Intel if i overclock that, because it's really cheap here in DK :)

Oh that's nice :D

And as i understood the E3 1231 v3 will performe better then the i5 4690k? :)

And then i just keep my old PSU?

I guess you couldn't find the cases because it's under "Hardware" and "Kabinet" :)

----

Have just looked at it

For 3567dkk i get the following

Intel Xeon E3-1231V3
MSI H97 GUARD-PRO
Corsair CS Series 650W
Corsair Carbide 300R

If i don't take the PSU i can get it for 2916dkk, that's kinda nice :D

If you could take the build above, that would be great.

You could also go with AMD, but to get a half potent build (still not as strong as the xeon one) you would need something like a quality 150$+ AM3+ 990x motherboard, an 8350fx, a h100i (120$), a new PSU (650W and more) and overclock the hell out of it. And even then, you wouldn't match the xeon's performance, while ending up spending even more.

You would need at least a noctua nh-d14/d15 or h100i to get the AMD chip to good performance.
And still, the xeon would still outperform it by a bit AND save you a lot on your yearly electricity bill.

Afterall, it's up to you. You can go with AMD if you want, but they currently lack behind in everything - performance, power consumption, efficiency.

Okay, it's just i'm thinking of starting to overclock... But i'm not kinda sure, with the AMD i will, but still i'm not yet sure, but the i7 4790k is just so much more expensive then the AMD solution

Yeah, the i7 4790k might be a bit out of price/performance ratio if you intend to overclock.
If you're mainly gaming and doing less of rendering/editing/modelling/whatever utilizes many threads) you can as well go with the i5 4690k and overclock that.

BUT, if you intend to overclock, you will need:
a z97 motherboard (40$ more than h97 and a potent cooling solution (30$-120$).
And, with your current PSU, a new one (at least a quality 550W PSU, better would be 650W).

If you already had a cooler and a strong PSU, I'd totally advice you to go with the i5 and overclock the hell out of it, but as your current rig is, the xeon would be more preferable for you. Especially if you also do heavily threaded work.

I have been thinking a little bit...

The new Pentium processor and a Z97 motherboard... And then begin to overclock it, so i comes up to the 4.4GHz or more :)

Then i get a cheaper build with a quite good processor at it's price WITH the possibility to upgrade the CPU later on, what do you think about that?

I'm really thinking of doing that :)

For a new PSU, CPU, Mobo and case i need to pay 433$ :)

Do you have experience with the pentium?

I thought of getting it as a "toy" to play around a bit, but as I don't have peripherals or other stuff to support it without changing parts of my current pc, I abandoned that idea.

Afterall, I personally see the huge advantage of the 5xxx series over the 4xxx series in power consumption and probably heat emittment.
If performance is more important to you than those things, go with the xeon now. If those are great things for you to base your decision on, go with the pentium now and change to i7 5xxx later. You should consider that it is overall more costly, though. I don't think there will be i7 5xxx's that compete with the xeon e3-1231v3 for less than 250 bucks too soon.

I would say i don't care if it become more costly over time, i just don't want to pay too much right now because i'm on a tight budget as a student, but afterall maybe in 1 year i have the money to upgrade and then i will :)

It's just if an overclocked Pentium will be better then my current CPU? :)
