my video card just died on me, so i was wondering if it would be better to get a new card or a new motherboard + APU combo? Im on a severely limited budget ($150.00 max) i only play games on my pc, and I don't overclock anything (no idea how to yet) right now i'm struggling along with an old HD4550. the games i usually play are world of warcraft, firefall, wildstar, rift, and ArcheAge. my current CPU is an AMD FX8120. thank you all.

Rift is hilariously CPU intensive, and I believe ArcheAge is similarly bad. Use your $150 to get a new GPU. You should be able to get an R7 260 or 265 or a GTX 750, any of which will be a huge improvement over the HD4550.

Honestly speaking...ANY card is better than what i have atm. is a cheap APU that much worse than what im running now?

The APU will have better graphics than your current, however worse CPU performance. Better to get a dedicated GPU and keep the performance of your CPU. viewtyjoe is right, r7 260 or gtx 750 are your best options.
