8750m to 8770m via firmware update: possible?

I've read that an r9 290 can be upgraded to an r9 290x via a firmware update because they're the same chip. I have an 8750m, but it's slower than the 8770m even though they're the same chip. Is it possible to get the speed increase I crave via a firmware update?

I did google it, however the things that came up were GPU comparisons telling me that the 8770m is faster. Nothing particularly helpful.

They're the same chip though. Why would changing it be impossible?

I don't believe it can be done. The 6950 could be turned into a 6970, and after that AMD fixed the loophole by laser-cutting the dies.

Alrighty then. Maybe my question should be how to overclock my GPU, but there's plenty out there about doing such a thing. Thanks for the help.

Try afterburner. You shouldn't overclock anything in a laptop. They get too hot as its is.
