Hi all,

I got this RAM from G.Skill two years ago:
G.Skill RipjawsX DDR3 1600 (2x2GB) CL6-8-6-24 1.5V
(awesome CAS!)

That PC has some performance issues since upgraded to W7. The user (my brother) complains about slow response times when alt-tabbing from/to games (Starcraft 2, Skyrim...) or when having too many units in the map (Starcraft 2). Memory usage when playing is over 70%, so I thought we could get another 2x2 GB, but this product seems discontinued (could not find any other DDR3 1600 CL6 anywhere).
I'd like to buy the compatible alternative that ensures best performance in that PC, that has:
- Asus P8Z68-V LX
- Intel Core i5 2500K 3.3Ghz (not overclocked)
I know it must match voltage for compatibility. Also it should be same frequency or the higher one would be underclocked, right?

So this is the best alternatives I have found in my national online shops:

2x4GB CL-8-8-8-24 at 81 €

2x4GB CL-7-8-8-24 at 79 €

Nothing else under budget. There are no CL6 of any voltage at 1600. The 2x2GB kits at 1600 are not 1.5V. So I guess best option is the CL7 kit no doubt.

Assuming that it doesn't need more than 8 GB in that PC, the questions reduce to these two:

If both old and new kits are installed, will the CL6 be downgraded to CL7? and if so, will it be a noticeable loss of performance?

Thank you very much,

Lucas.

Sounds like you have a set of ECOs (great sticks) - best bet would be jus a 2x4GB 8GB set as there's no guarantees anything you get will work with your current sticks, but if it's not an option, go with the CL7 Ripjaws X...give me a shout if any problems with them playing nice, can prob make voltage and/or slight timing adjustments to get them to play

CL7 kits are very rare now, we may not see them next month.
