Hello, I've recently just ordered my new rig. I was wondering whether I connect my monitor to the motherboard and use the onboard graphics, or connect it to my dedicated GTX 660, for setting up the BIOS once I boot it for the first time.

Thanks in advance. Feel free to comment on my rig

If it were me, I would NOT install the gpu until I had the drivers, bios, windows updates etc fully installed. Get your system running in a base configuration, then start adding in gpu, sound card, external drives, etc. The less you have to troubleshoot when a problem arises, the easier it is to get your system up.

Thanks for clearing that up. It's my first build so I want to make sure I get everything right on the first go.

If I use the onboard graphics, would the procedure be the same if I were to connect my monitor to the GPU?

There is no onboard gpu...
You have to use the gpu to display an output.
Just plug the monitor to the gpu and boot the pc up. You can install windows and update windows before installing gpu drivers from Nvidia's website.

Sorry, I should've been more clearer. I was referring to the CPU's onboard graphics. The FX series doesn't havd onboard graphics so I was wondering if it would affect the setup.

There is no onboard cpu graphics on AMD FX. That is only on Intel cpu and AMD APUs.

Suztera is correct - there is no onboard graphics capability for the cpu/mb. His advice is fine - put the gpu in the pcie slot, hook up the monitor and do all your installs/updates. After those are done, then get the current nvidia drivers (not beta) and install those and you'll be good to go.
