CPU not getting enough power?

Recently I traded out my old AMD FX-4300 for an FX-8320, and since then, my games have been having regular lag spikes and occassionally freezing. The CPU is not overheating, I have a decent cooling system and haven't overclocked on account of my MOBO being a bit dicey. I know the CPU is compatible with my motherboard (previous 8350 was not) and the only thing I can think to be the cause is the increased consumption of voltage. I have a 500w power supply, and a GTX 660ti, with 8gb of RAM (not sure the speed) any ideas?

CPU: AMD FX-8320 8CORE 3.5GHZ
GPU: NVIDIA GTX 660ti 2GB
RAM: 2x 4GB DDR3 (on CPUZ it says my NB Frequency is 2199.9MHz. Idunno if that's normal or not.)
MOBO: MSI-970A-G43
PSU: EVGA 500B 500W POWER SUPPLY

that's all I really know.

MSI-970A-G43 hasn't got good VRM cooling. I suspect the motherboard is thermal throttling your cpu hence the lag spikes.

You can put some VRM cooler by yourself or get a better motherboard.

Looks like I better mentally prepare for wire management....
