Alright so I have been reading and seen that several people have some of these issues. The problem is some people have said power problems other driver problems.

So I will just be messing around on my computer ( never happened during games) and my screen will go black and the fans will kick up to a higher volume. Forcing me to force restart my computer. I'm worried I have a bad card bad drivers or bad power supply. I have already returned 2 cards because they were bad they were tested on another computer, but now im wondering if it was my computer that was the problem. Before I never had an issue with my old card amd 6970.

Specs
windows 8.1- newly installed

intel i7 960 3.20 ghz

card- sapphire r9 290x

ram 6 sticks 12 gb

1000w psu

so far the problem has happened a total of 5 times in a 7 day period. I know some on computers but I am no expert by any means.

If it is a power supply how do I test to find out?

Can you try your card on another computer?

it would probably be a week before I could do that. I really dont think its a bad gpu cause my games run great and temps don't get bad. I'm hoping its software. Not sure how to test that.

Try your card in the 2nd PCIe x16 slot, if your board has one
