AMD tends to be recommended for lower-budget builds as you get more performance-per-dollar at that level. As you look up towards the more expensive and high-end CPUs, Intel tends to do better mostly because it uses less electricity to achieve the same results. The processors also cost about the same at that end too.

If you simply plan to game, then I think a i5 4690k will suffice and is probably your best option if you also want to save a bit of money.

The i7 4790k will still perform better, but it's not going to be significant enough to warrant the money for gaming.

Intel is better on the higher-end of things. AMD is best for budget PCs that don't want to spend over $300 for their mobo and processor.

You could also downgrade to 8 GB of RAM.

With your current budget, go crazy with making everything look good. That's what I would do, anyway. Get some LEDs, crazy AIO or custom water cooler, best case with x amount of fans, frontal bay temperature/fan controller monitor. Lol

But in the end, to answer your thread, Intel wins.
