I recently decided that I need a new computer. My current laptop is around 6 years old, and beraly runs games for an hour before crashing. So I spent a long time piecing together parts that would likely fit as a mid-range build. However, I'd like to know if my build is good at all, or if I can get parts any cheaper perhaps. I'd appreciate any suggestions :D
Here's a parts list, with prices included.

Motherboard: Asus Z97-A $140
CPU: Intel i5 Quad-Core 4690K $239
RAM: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB DDR3 1600 MHz $80
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 760 SuperClocked 2GB $240
Hard Drive: Western Digital Blue 1TB $60
Optical Drive: Asus 24x DvD Burner $22
Case: Cooler Master HAF 912 ATX Mid Tower $54
Power Supply: XFX ATX 550 Watts $60

Very solid build. You would need after market CPU Cooler. Better get CM 212 Evo if on tight budget here.

Looks solid, but if gaming is the main concern, you could save almost $100 by getting a locked i5 and H97 motherboard and you could put that extra $100 directly onto the video card. An i5 4590 + GTX770 would be considerably better than an i5 4690k + GTX760 no matter how high it's overclocked.

Thanks guys! Since I'm getting a bit tired of garbage-grade laptops, I figured I'd go all-out and get a good build.
Still, good point about the video card. I have had quite a few run-ins with bad video cards, and I'm not eager to repeat them.

The only slight problem is that since I live in Canada, the prices are quite a bit higher. Still, the total isn't too much higher.
