This is typically always a issue of defective card, this card should still be under warranty. My suggestion call up the manufacturer and RMA it immediately. Make sure to tell them what the issue is. ...
Actually what is your power supply, if you have a very low-end power supply this could be a power fluctuation issue.

i have contacted the store from which i purchased it from though i am having to wait until monday at the earliest for a reply, also i have a Corsair CX600M power supply though it has the power that the system needs i do have a slight issue of coil whine though i switched that out for another PSU Powercool 550w 80 Plus Gold certified power supply and it seems to still not work, even with another system, previously i was working perfectly fine until i actually updated the graphics driver and then ever since then it hasnt worked at all unless it have the standard vga drivers (no amd drivers installed)

Yeah that is most likely a video card issue, however that powercool power supply is not a very good test unit(kind of a junk power supply), Have you tried reverting to last known working Drivers there may be an issue with the drivers if they are beta especially. You might try removing drivers completely and reinstalling last known working drivers. However this still sounds like a video card issue to me.

However that other power supply the powercool 550w is not necessarily actually giving enough power to power it properly.

i have had the graphics card workig with both power supplies and i have installed the previous working drivers and still the same issue i am beginning to believe it is an issue with the card itself, though i didn't see how it could just straight up stop working even though it wasn't stressed and it was only using a maximum of 80% of its actual performance due to the games i play, i think i will just stick with nvidia from now on, my previous card (GTX 760) worked a dream and performed as well as this, also allowing me to o'c my monitor with the EVGA Pixel O'C program i think that definately took the lead over this card, thank you for the help and i will give more information about the RMA on monday (if i get a reply) thank you for your time :)

No problem if it was working correctly then either it is an issue of the card having been overheating ... (have you ever checked system temps) ... or just a faulty card from the manufacturer.

Don't write AMD off you can get a faulty card from either, I own a computer repair and custom build shop and we get faulty cards from both, its usually more a problem of Asus, Zotac, saphire etc rather than AMD VS Nvidia.

in fact i think i may just write off msi as its the MSI twinfrozr r9 280x version, though i do prefer the ability to force my resolution with nvidia cards as i tried so hard to force 2560x1440 (knowing my monitor/tv can cope) it wouldnt let me with this card at all... but you are right about the amd/nvidia being equally as bad as eachother at times, though i have had more issues with amd than nvidia, thank you anyway i just hope they are good with they're RMA policy and get in contact asap due to my pc being unusable for what it was built for now :c i don't suppose you've ever dealt with 'compadvance.co.uk' with their policies etc?
