Adding an additional 8gb of ram, safe to do so?

I currently have 8gb corsair vengeance 1600mhz and my question is, is it safe to add another 8gb of the same memory type to my computer or will it cause problems, I have heard that you need the exact same batch of memory from the production line, is this true?

Even if from the same batch (production lot) it can still be problematic....You could pull 10 sticks right off the production line and out of the 10 only find 4 that will all play together, that's why they offer so many package options - all sticks in a given package are tested to work together
