What causes the FPS to be so crappy more, the CPU or GPU?

I have an Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 @2.33GHz CPU and an ATI Radeon HD 3450 GPU

this is just a reference point, but what would I upgrade 1st to improve my FPS?

fps greatly depends on gpu but tere should be a balance between the cpu and the gpu if the cpu is weak ad the gpu is strong then u get poor performance or bottleneck .......so in your case for improving your fps u should upgrade your gpu....

Thanks, much help, but ok, what would the best GPU upgrade for the cheapest would up my fps but not get bottlenecked on the CPU end?

A gtx titan z
Or a r9 250-270x will be fine

first of all there no such thing as r9 250 its r7 250 and yes r7 250 will be good and well balance with his processor next comes the r9 270x which is far superior card compared to the r7 250 and costs double but i think it will get bottlenecked by his processor..........and gtx titan z really!! its a 3000$ card

yes the 750 ti is good with your cpu .....780 ti heavily bottlenecked by the cpu..

minecraft is a cpu intensive game that's why its not mentioned in any gpu benchmark list ..

ok, but in that case, is it the cpu that needs an upgrade or still the gpu?? Sorry to turn it into a Minecraft thread, lol. I play Sims 3 and Mechwarrior 4 on the PC too

gpu is a must for playing modern games so stick with it later upgrade your cpu and motherboard ....i suggest a i5 4690 & if u are into OC then i5 4690k and depending on your cpu a h97 board for i5 4690 and a z97 board for i5 4690k....

well I need to upgrade my Mobo, it's built in audio has crashed, nothing will even detect it, I even did a factory restore which usually fixes the issue and that didn't work... I just don't ever have the $600 per parts I need to build my system...
