I recently put together my first build, and it simply won't work. I took it apart and reassembled it 3 more times. Benched it. And still nothing. I have no clue what is going on.

Symptoms:
- Motherboard indicator light is on.
- Only components connected are mobo power, cpu power and the cpu fan.
- No ram installed (and don't get a beep)
- Cpu fan doesn't work.

Any cures?

The CPU won't work w/o RAM. It may bump for a few seconds and then shut down. But it needs to see RAM.

But shouldn't the error codes be beeping through the speaker on the mobo?

I tried 3 different CPU fans too! None of them worked either.

I just assembled a new build for some one and went to bench test it. The CPU fan spun for about 10 seconds and shut off. It wouldn't re-start after that. Had me scratching my head for a few seconds.
Finally I realized I had forgot to install the memory... lol. Worked fine after I put the RAM in. Duh.

Hmm....let me try that.
(5 minutes later)
So I installed one stick of RAM and still had the same results with all three fans.
The first time I put this build together I forgot the standoffs for the mobo could this have permanently caused some damage to it?

Try it with ram installed and make sure psu is working correctly

If you powered up the system and the traces on the back of the MB were grounding out against the case, yes. You may have fried something.

Well, I have 2 other motherboards. Would the other components be ok, like the HDD's Optical drives and video card?

Hard to say. Chances are, yes. But I'm just guessing from afar. Your problem could be something else entirely. If the MB is still under retailer or manufacturer RMA time, I would send it back if it doesn't work.
