I'm currently trying to build a new gaming rig as I just sold my old one. I just wanted the opinion of more experienced PC builders. Yes I know I should build based on my needs and everybody has a different opinion on what a good gaming rig should have. Also, I haven't read a lot on Intel's new Broadwell chips coming out at the end of this year or early 2015. Should I just wait for Broadwell to come out? Anyway, I'm thinking about getting:

Case: Corsair 730T
PSU: EVGA 1000w Gold
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z97 Soc Force
CPU: i7-4790K
GPU: Vapor-X R9 290 Crossfire
RAM: G.Skill Trident X 16GB 2400
SSD: Samsung 840 Evo 120GB
HDD: WD Black 1TB

This build is just for gaming 1440p 120hz or at 1600p at 60hz. Advice on a better choice for a motherboard and GPU (I would prefer a single GPU with enough power) will be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

No need to wait for anything, get the best you can now.
If you are gaming as main resource, get a i5 4690K instead of the i7. You can also swap to 8 GB of RAM as games hardly use more.

UNLESS you plan on video editing, then keep the i7 and 16 gb.

Another advice, get a WD Blue or ST Barracuda, the WD Blacks are a myth.

I mean it depends on what FPS you want to achieve. For 1440p gaming I would go with top of the line GPU, just so your FPS doesn't suffer in the future games. So Nvidia 780/780 ti/R9 290x, remember with higher resolution comes more pixel density which means you don't need high AA (which will increase your FPS). Personally, I am waiting for the Broadwell and 800 series Nvidia GPU's to upgrade, but I am already hardware that can handle what I need.

Thanks for your responses. No I don't plan on doing any video editing just gaming. I just want a rig that will be good for at least 3 years. And in 3 years I'm hoping to only have to replace the GPU.

1000w is not needed unless you plan to get a second GPU in the future, 850w will be enough for you. I would go with an 780 ti or 290x in my opinion, just so you don't have to worry about getting decent fps on modern games.
