Ok, Im pretty sure now that you must change that psu, is important to choose a reliable brand choosing a psu, if you dont you can encounter this kind of problem or maybe worst. Try to find if your old gpu can work in another build so we can exclude that your gpu its not damage and your new one also, if it works then you should spend that money in...

Hi sorry the reason i ask is cause i have just got the gpu and it doesn't work with my mb. I haven't really got a budget but nothing too crazy lol maybe round the £50 a little more if needed.

Can you provide the brand of your PSU (power supply unit) because it´s weird that your gpu doesn´t work with your motherboard, in fact if you have a pci-e port in your motherboard any of the actual gpu will work for sure unless your PSU can´t handle it or something like that.

My psu is a ATX1000 and my mother board is a msi H61M-P31 (G3)

You didn´t tell me anything about the PSU can you give me a shot or the specific brand name like corsair or antec.

That motherboard should handle your gpu, it has a pci-e 3.0 port so probably your PSU is at fault.

All the psu has on it is atx1000-135AE. To cut along story short i origionally had a GTX 650 everything working perfect. Today i bought the msi 280x tried to install it but failed, i went onto part picker to find out if it was compatible with my mb and i couldn't pick it for my mb so i assumed it wasnt compatible, i then put my old card back in to find my pc wont boot fans come on but no lights apart from gpu and it doesnt beep. So ithought i must have done something to mb thats what brings me here looking for a new one.

Hi thanks for the reply the reason it made me think it was the mb was the fact when i have that mb on part picker i cant have the msi 280x as my gpu

Hi thanks again i will try today to get another machine and see if it is these, i dont think it is the gpu's since i just took the GTX out and it was working fine and as for the 280x that is brand new lol. What has me puzzled now is my machine wont boot any more with my old gpu in so its makeing me think it is either my mb or psu which has gone. My fans work but no lights or beep, i think the best place for this is the shop.
