At the low end, for budget computers, AMD is by far the most bang for the buck. By about 4200 for the CPU, Intel is ahead and then stays ahead into territory that AMD processors don't even cover. Also note that when AMD is equal to Intel, the power consumption of the AMD CPUs is significantly higher than Intel. At the Intel Core i5 level, AMD has approx. 50% disadvantage in power (and cooling) to Intel.

Intel, no reason to game amd, low end is the 3258,mid is any i5, high is i7, amd just cant compete at this point since they have not updated AM3+ processor line.

You have to be a tad careful there. The Pentium Anniversary G3258 is only a worthwhile contender if it gets overclocked - that needs a more expensive motherboard. AMD mobos are a bit cheaper.

Budget? And which specific models of CPUs are you talking about?

Generally the answer is intel. Especially with Haswell. The i3's directly compete with the FX 63xx and 83xx (excluding some specific games that use a few more cores), and the i5's are ahead of those anyway.

You can overclock the 3258 on many cheap boards, Toms hardware OC on a 50 dollar msi board, check out the review for it. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/pentium-g3258-b81-c...
