Hey guys my asus n550jv has been riddled with driver issues ever since I got it. The issue I am currently trying to resolve is that when I plug my tv into the hdmi port the video will be sent to the tv but the audio will come out of the laptop speakers.

The laptop does not display the tv in the playback device setting even when checking of "show disable devices, show disconnected devices".

The only way I can appear to get it to work is to restart the laptop with the hdmi cord plugged in. Then like magic audio is being sent to the tv and the playback device settings displays my tv.

Its very annoying to keep restarting my laptop. My laptop has a 4600hd intel gpu and nividia 750m and both have the latest drives. Both of which are functioning in device manager. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Well I just gave you best answer by accident so congrats. I have a couple questions if you could help me out.
1) Are you running windows 8.1 or 8
2) Do you have the audio problem described
3) Do you notice that everything shrinks (such as windows display bar and tiles after an hdmi is unplugged)
4) Have you been having driver issues (I just did a reformat cause my touchsceen and webcam stopped working). I may never buy asus again if this is their standard. Thought I was buying a quality laptop.

Thanks.

I'm running Win 8.1
I don't have any problems with my HDMI connection.
What do you mean everything shrinks? Is this happening AFTER you reformatted?
Did you reinstall the drivers from the official laptop's page AFTER reformatting?
How did you reformat your laptop?

Everything becomes smaller, almost as if i adjsuted the resolution. The tile page that was full previously has more room as the tiles have all shrunk in size. The same thing happens to the icon bar. I can posts pics in the morning.
-a restart fixes this problem

Yes I did a windows reset (not reformat, still using xp terminology) and updated all drivers and took all windows updates then installed windows 8.1 and then installed all their updates. Ironically i had this problem before the reset as well.

I tried recreating this issue this morning but it didnt do it. I still had the audio issue however. I did learn that a simply putting the computer to sleep and then waking it up will allow it to detect the tv, it doesnt have to be a full restart. I also noticed that periodically my "intel display audio" will have an exclamation point around it and then it will go away. I have the newest display audio drivers as well and atm it is currently functioning.

I was able to finally get a few screenshots of the resizing, hopefully they will clarify the issue. https://imageshack.com/i/ew60zupDj

It looks like a resolution size change. Seems plugging in the HDMI then unplugging it increase your resolution. Try to recreate this again, but check the resolutions before and after. Right click desktop > screen resolution.

Ive checked that already, it stays at 1920x1080. Both the tv and the monitor run at the same resolution.

Well, it sounds like the sound output doesn't switch over when you plug in the HDMI, but it defaults to HDMI when you do have it plugged it on restart.

This is all I can think of:
