Okay. So today I got an aftermarket cooler for my AMD FX 8320 CPU and when I was cleaning the old thermal paste, I took it out of its socket for it to be easier to clean. But when I took it out, some thermal paste dribbled out onto the socket. Not in the holes but on the lines surrounding the holes (Look at a picture of an AM3+ Socket you will know what I'm talking about. I tried to clean it with rubbing alcohol but the color is still there but no actual compound. So it is still kinda grey but no thermal paste. I boot up my system and for some reason I got the American Megatrends screen saying "New CPU installed!" even though I didn't install a new CPU. And rest of PC works just fine. Will it hurt me in the long run? Is it alright?

Solution

From the certain knowledge that it booted fine and recognized the cpu had been removed from the socket

If there was a problem it would not have booted
