The processor wont make any practical difference to game performance

The rendering may be favored by one architecture or another . You expect the intel to be a little better , but not that much better the price difference is not worth it . And depending on which software you use the AMD may be better anyway

Buy the one with the strongest graphics card , but if its the AMD make sure your rendering program can use openCL , and if the nVidia then make sure that there is cuda support and drivers

^ Yup. The i5 4690K and a R9 290 would give you great performance.
FX series CPUs tend to cause frame drops in a lot of games. Their minimum frame rates are quite poor compared to even i3 chips, which can be very noticeable.

True.
Minimum Skyrim framerate on an FX-8350 is 39 fps. Minimum Skyrim framerate on an i3-4130 is 57 fps. Minimum Skyrim framerate on an i7-4770K is 90 fps. That's the only benchmark that I remember off the top of my head since I've referenced it several times recently, but the FX CPUs are at the bottom of the pile for gaming. However, they are excellent, unmatched for the price for rendering.

It comes down to whether you value gaming, money, or rendering more.
