Hello i have a problem with my computer restarting.
I have a nearly 2 year old custom desktop with windows 8.1 booting off a intel SSD and it has intel and nvidia parts that i like to believe i keep very good care of...im always nagging others to treat there pc better.

It always seems to happen when i am not there , like when i turn on my computer and it sits at the screen waiting for me to enter my password...it will restart. or even worse i was trying to run a full scan with the intel SSD tool box and it finished the read scan but half way through the data integrity scan it randomly restarted while i was out getting a sandwich.

i think its a settings issue , i doubt anything is broke unless i have a virus. i ran a error check on my ssd and ran 3 full scans ( kaspersky , malwarebytes and windows defender , not at the same time ofc , i disabled kaspersky while i had windows defender up for example. ) and i found no malware.

i have never had it restart on me while i was there , like literately it seems to do it when im away from the room always......creepy lol

UPDATE here are my specs.
GPU : GTX 680 ( core clock 1071MHz / boost clock 1137 ) 4GB / / CPU : Intel i7-3770K @ 3.50 ghz // Memory :vengeance 16GB(x2 8GB) ram
hard-drive : caviar black 2TB // SSD : Intel730 480GB //
Operating system : Windows 8.1 // Monitor resolution : 1920x1080 80hz
Motherboard : 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI, DP, SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel
Power supply : seasonic X 1050 watt GOLD

Solution
If you have random momentary freezing but no crash/reboot, you might want to use HDTach or similar tool to check SMART status and see if you might have a HDD issue. Installing the manufacturer's diagnostic tools and running the short diagnostic test would not hurt either - just in case.

Thank you for responding , my psu is the SeaSonic X-SERIES X-1050 GOLD. I know a good psu is important so i tried to buy a high quality one and one that had more power than i would ever need lol over kill but i hate to worry.

You might want to be more specific (actual model number) about which z77 motherboard you have since there are hundreds of models on the market... same for the GPU.

Were it not for your PSU being Haswell-ready, my next guess would have been that your PSU is occasionally glitching due to insufficient load.

I cannot say any obvious cause stands out so my bet would be on an odd power stability issue. To test that, you could try running Prime95 with only one worker thread enabled. If I am right, the extra load on the PSU might stop it from stepping into the twilight zone.

I am not super smart to be honest , about this stuff....so would taking it to some one for a check up be worth it or to risky? also , since I scanned with Kaspersky , windows defender/MSE and malwarebytes ...is there anything else I can do? I still am worried about a virus cause my browser keeps freezing more and more....and I got a 3-4 thousand $ setup and keep good care of my pc so Its nothing simple like needing to clean junk data I think and haven't added anything new to it as far as I know...

Well i re-installed windows for a fresh start and so far i think i have no issues at all , which i believe rules out my power supply being the culprit. Guess that means it was malware or just a random fuck up in windows then? It happened around the time i got a pirated photoshop from a friend , but when i realized you can get it for only 20 bucks a month so i decided to try and uninstall it....but it wouldn't let me and i need to remove it before i can buy photoshop , so i re-installed windows to remove it and conveniently it fixed the issues....so i think it was malware...
