Case fan running very slow

Hello,

I recently bought a few Corsair SP120 case fans. One of them is running very slowly compared to the others. It's almost stalling. Also the bios is reporting a very slow rpm for that fan (~400 vs ~1200 for the others). It doesn't matter which fan header I plug it into, the same thing happens. Any ideas on what might be the problem? Is it a bad fan? Should I try to return it to newegg or try to claim the warranty with Corsair?

Thanks.

If you have two identical fans with different speeds from the exact same fan header then it sounds like a defective fan.

Aside from that, have you played around with your motherboard fan control software to set custom speed profiles for CPU and case fans?

As for the warning, you can usually disable those in the BIOS. I had to for my setup as it wasn't an error, my Noctua fan could spin below 300RPM and it wasn't hot enough to require faster speeds.

Yes, I have four identical fans and one of them is running at the slower speed. So it's a defective fan.

No, I have not messed with the fan profiles yet. I don't really want to just yet until I get a good fan in there.

It's not a warning. I just went it the HW monitor section to see what the bios was reporting. And as expected, the speed was lower for the one that was actually running lower.

Now the question is whether to try to return it to newegg or corsair? Any ideas about which one is the path of least resistance?
