Can't open Word document

Do you get any messages from windows.
If your in the downloads folder, don`t forget it`s under your user name.
That folder can have what we call permissions.
Part of accounts control, make sure you are an admin first and not a normal user.
You can do this through control panel, user accounts.
Your name,change account type.
Next check the file associated with word.
If not right click on it, and from the pull down menu select open with. To the right choose default program.
Left click on other programs in blue.
Scroll down till you see Ms office or MS word.
Hi light ms word, and click ok.
The next time you left click on the word document Ms word should start, and the document should load.

Try doing what Shaun o suggested
right click on the file and select the default program
if that doesnt open it then its either corrupted because of a bad download , or its not what it appears to be . Possibly another kind of file with the wrong extension .
Is deleting and downloading again an option
