Hi guys,

I have an Acer Aspire 5741G laptop and recently it has been overheating and shutting down. I took it to a repair store where it was cleaned and the fan changed. Interestingly, after that I noticed using HWMonitor that only the GPU overheats and under heavier loads the laptop would still shut down. For instance the CPU would be at 50C while GPU reaching 99C. So it seems the CPU is cooling fine, but not the GPU. So I was wondering what might be causing this? Did the guys at the repair store mess up somehow?
My graphics card is GeForce GT 320M and my CPU is Intel Core i5 430M. Any ideas are welcome. Thanks a lot!

I would of said so.
At 99c for the Gpu your looking at the cooler plate on the Gpu die not making proper contact, ill fitted or no thermal pad/ compound between it.

From that should be a flat copper heat pipe that run to the edge of the case where on the other end soldered fins are attached. in front of it is a fan blower to pass air through it that exits out the side or back of the case through vents.

It needs to be opend again and double check if its hitting 99c, without a doubt.
