APU usage low in crossfire

Solution
Not all code writing styles will automatically work with crossfire/SLI. Maybe your sample does something in a way the drivers cannot figure how to do with crossfire... or in a way AMD knows to cause trouble on their drivers or hardware so AMD disables crossfire when it is detected.

If you own any game that officially supports crossfire, you could try that.

he HD6670 is VLIW architecture (the 6xxx are little more than updated 5xxx) [strike] while the HD8670D is GCN architecture.[/strike]

Crossfire only works between same-architecture models. You need a HD7xxx / R7-2xx series GPU if you want to crossfire with your APU.

Edit: gotta love AMD recycling model numbers out of sequence.

Assuming crossfire is really enabled in your configuration, it could simply be that your demo code requires some further tweaking to make it more crossfire-friendly. It is not uncommon for games to require patches before they will work with crossfire or SLI.
