Hi everyone.
First off, thank you if you can provide any assistance over the following problem.
Recently, I have reinvorgorated an aging relatives pc (in excess of 9 years or so).
I have stripped away the 'guts' of the pc - upgrading the mobo, cpu, and ram - leaving behind 2 ide hard disks, along with a CD drive. The new motherboard I have upgraded to is a 2 channel Sata mobo (details can be provided if needed)
My plan is to transfer the files from the main master ide drive onto the secondary ide drive. I was aware I would have to use a converter so that these old ide drives can be read on the new motherboard. Once I have transferred the important documents I will then carry out a fresh install with Windows 7 replacing the old ide master drive (the operating system on these old drives is Windows XP SP1.)
*The problem I've faced is that whenever I boot up the ide master drive although recognised, Windows XP fails to load. A continual loop happens where the pc keeps resetting itself, despite reaching the screen which offers safe mode and all the other boot options. No matter which option I press on this screen the pc will once again reset itself in this continual loop.
I am stuck as to why this problem has occured.

Foolishly, I thought this would be straightforward. Swap the files onto secondary drive, wipe the main drive and install new op system.
Please if you can provide any solutions. Also any pitfalls to prevent because I am dealing with old legacy devices, and an old operating system.

Thanks all.
Mark.
