Restarted pc, now windows cant start up anymore

I have a dual boot xp/7 machine and i was in the process of moving any games running on the xp side over to the 7 side so i could get rid of xp. i have a 3 partiton hdd. One for 7, one for xp and one for storage which is also where i install all my games.

I moved over some games by simply copying over save files and desktop icons. Then i booted into xp to uninstall some games i no longer wanted on the system (they were installed in xp). After doing that i restarted and told it to start in 7.
That is when it developed the problem. Now it tries to load 7 but cant. It goes to the starting windows screen, but the windows logo doesnt appear, then it loads windows repair. I get no error messages at all and windows repair cannot determine nor fix the problem no matter how many times i run it.

I tried doing the system restore option (it had a restore point from about 4 hours prior to when the issue developed) and it said it finished successfully, but it still has the same problem.

I don't think there is anything wrong with my hdd because xp boots and runs fine. Also, i can access all of the files stored in the windows 7 partition (while in xp) just fine.

Any clue as to what it could be? If i can't figure it out i will just do a fresh reinstall of 7, but that is such a pain.

here's what i suggest - get a new 120GB ssd drive and remove the current drive from the computer, install windows 7 fresh on the new ssd, then install the old hdd, install your progs and games and move your saves to the new ssd - then you'll have the entire hdd to format and use as a data drive

the way you're doing it is just going to make a mess, as you can see

So there is probably no way to fix my current 7 instal on my HDD?

When you are in the Restore Window, open a cmd prompt, you should see a button somewhere on that window. Or try to press "~". When that is open, type in chkdsk C: /F /R

It should scan your HDD and repair any found issues within it.

You could also type in sfc /scannow to attempt to find a fault in the drive/OS

Nubbsauce,
I try tried those things with no luck. The first suggestion ran and found a few errors and fixed them. But when i restarted like it told me to, it just did this same thing and couldnt load windows. When i tried the 2nd suggestion it started but then quickly told me that it couldnt perform the scan because error fixes were already being performed and required a restart. It still said this after several restarts.
Now sure what to do now other than a fresh install.

unless you have an exact copy of the C:\Windows and root folder, there's no way to fix your existing windows installation without a reinstall.

If you have copies of the files (a backup of the files, not a backup file) take the drive out and put it into the computer where you can copy the files

I don't have a backup like that. Ok I will reinstall, and since I believe in making sucky situations be positive, I'll buy an SSD to do that reinstall. :)

If all else fails, a reinstall will cure everything. You may lose data, but that can be retrieved from the internet. lol An SSD will be amazing by the way. I want to pick up another one to replace my 7200RPM HDD. They install things so much faster and have less of a chance of failing. Just remember ***NEVER DEFRAGMENT (DEFRAG) YOUR SSD*** doing so will ruin it. I learned the hard way haha T_T
