I just bought a 2gb gtx 650. After i installed it i was running on ultra settings at about 25-35 fps but i wanted faster frame rates. i decided to try and overclock it at +250 core clock and +475 memory w/ oc guru. noticed that while stess testing the overclocking didnt seem to take effect so i tried the same settings on afterburner. now when stress testing the memory is running at +475 but core clock has dropped to less then it was stock(was 1110 now runs at 888) also when trying to game running at 8-15 fps. using "Full Load" to stress test. ive tried downloading latest drivers but same thing.any help would be appreciated

Try this.[It worked for me(using MSI Afterburner)]
First of all you need to TOTALLY remove all the old drivers. Use this link.

Note:
Select the respective company(i.e Nvidia or ATI) drivers to be uninstalled.
Use clean and restart option.
And then install the new drivers after rebooting.
Then try OCing.

Hey,
I don't think it's a driver issue at all. I'm pretty sure you've stressed your card and it's throttling down to protect itself.

*Put your graphics card settings back to normal and see if your performance is what it was previously.

Other:
a) Download and run 3DMark2001se. Write down the default benchmark value then rerun later if you overclock or question to see if it does go higher (or if you don't overclock just to see if it stays the same at a later date).

b) Do a LIGHT overclock instead.

c) Don't try to stress the card too high, rather take the time to tweak the quality settings for the optimal visual experience you CAN get. Personally, I prefer to keep a solid frame rate (40FPS with VSYNC OFF as a minimum, or VSYNC ON at 60FPS).

d) Adaptive VSYNC:
I tweak many games by forcing this on per game after I've tweaked so I'm at 60FPS about 90% of the time and 10% below this. After forcing Adaptive VSync on in the NVidia Control Panel you should just get screen tearing when it drops below 60FPS instead of the quick stuttering that you normally get due to the synch mismatch.

If the tearing bothers you, retweak by dropping a few settings (shadows, or screen resolution, AA whatever makes the most sense) to stay at 60FPS 95% to 100% of the time.

Yeah i tried that it will get back up to 1110 for just a second then immediately drop back down to 888 and idle there. the only way i can get it to spike back up is to toggle between profiles on afterburner.

It most likely just needs more power if you want to keep that overclock stable. Then you'd have to monitor heat. That big of an overclock for an extended period of time can cause a bit of damage to your GPU if you don't have enough cooling.

The gpu temp never exeeded 55*. thats y im confused.

That can't be the issue since you dropped the overclock to normal settings from what you said above. If the card was defective I'd expect it to crash or show artifacts. However, I didn't build the card so why it won't run at top frequency is something I can't fix.

I suggest you open a Technical Support ticket with the manufacturer.

*Try this:
1) Download and install 3DMark2001se
2) Monitor the GPU usage
3) Run it and write down the score
4) (If GPU usage is still about 888MHz continue to Step #5)

5) Open NVidia Control Panel-> Managed 3D Settings-> Select "3DMark2001se"
6) Power Management Mode-> Prefer Maximum Performance-> SAVE

7) Rerun the benchmark (while monitoring GPU usage) then write down the score

**If GPU usage goes higher after forcing this feature then you have a method to force it to work though I still haven't solved the reason for the problem. Also note if the SCORE goes up.
