Hi

I'm looking to upgrade my graphics card for upcomming games. Currently I have a single 7870 which I could crossfire, my friend is also offering me a really good deal on two 7950s which I could crossfire, I could also get a single 280X. All of which would be more than powerfull enough for 1080p.
Also my 7870 is one of the Tahiti LE versions do I need to crossfire it with annother Tahiti LE version or would it work with any 7870? I also know that Tahiti LE versions cossfire with 79xx series which is another option. But It doesn't seem worth buying a 79xx series to crossfire with a 7870 if they're going to run at the speed of the 7870 though (is this the case?), might as well buy another 7870 which is much cheaper if that is what will happen.

My question about crossfire in general is. Last time I did crossfire was with two 6850's the problem I had was that in Skyrim was when a new scene was loaded the FPS would drop down to 10-15 for a few of seconds before going up, so I sold the 6850s and got a 7870. Is this normal for crossfire setups? I don't want to do crossfire again if this is the case, because even with a lower overall fps it still seems better visually not to have periods of low fps.

Thanks

You would need another Tahiti LE, I personally would go single R9 280X but it is probably not a big upgrade from your current one so if you want wow factor either crossfire the current or take the deal from your friend.
2x7950 would be the best performance if your PSU is up to it.

I have a 750w PSU so it think that would be ok. The 280x is about 28% faster at 1080p according to http://tinyurl.com/oacmnrk.

The thing is, if I'm not going to get consistent fps like having low fps just after loading then I'd rather get the single gpu, I can't find any information about how typical this is for multi-GPU setups on the web.
The good thing about multi-GPU setups is you can buy one GPU play on it for a few years then add another one when you want more performance. But if you get low Minimum fps, it isn't going to be a superior experiance compared to having a lower fps in scenes, so long as it isn't very slow in scenes.

A 290 isn't a bad idea since second hand it is on par price to performance as a 280x. Although I would like to get two 7950s I don't want to deal with the issue I had last time. Thanks.
