I recently decided to downgrade my HP laptop (model 2000-2d22DX) from Windows 8 to Windows 7. I went into the BIOS and turned off secure boot and turned on legacy boot, then booted to the Windows 7 install disk. The first few steps of the install completed, but when it got to "Expanding Windows Files", the installer stayed on 0% and never moved passed it for forty-five minutes. Attempting the install several more times yielded the same result.
I downloaded Darik's Boot and Nuke and wiped the hard drive overnight last night, in case any lingering Windows 8 files were causing the problem. But when I tried the install again this morning...exact same problem.
I've looked through the BIOS and I haven't found any additional settings related to booting or the hard drive that I could change. I didn't see any references on HP's website to that model needing special HDD drivers, and the ISO I'm using was linked on the Microsoft Technet forums, so I'm pretty sure its legit (and before you ask, I do have a key from an old laptop I'm going to throw out, but I haven't gotten to that point yet). Has anyone else run into this issue, and is there any way to make Windows 7 work on my HP?
