Wierd Windows 7 downgrade problem (not secure boot)

I recently decided to downgrade my HP laptop (model 2000-2d22DX) from Windows 8 to Windows 7. I went into the BIOS and turned off secure boot and turned on legacy boot, then booted to the Windows 7 install disk. The first few steps of the install completed, but when it got to "Expanding Windows Files", the installer stayed on 0% and never moved passed it for forty-five minutes. Attempting the install several more times yielded the same result.

I downloaded Darik's Boot and Nuke and wiped the hard drive overnight last night, in case any lingering Windows 8 files were causing the problem. But when I tried the install again this morning...exact same problem.

I've looked through the BIOS and I haven't found any additional settings related to booting or the hard drive that I could change. I didn't see any references on HP's website to that model needing special HDD drivers, and the ISO I'm using was linked on the Microsoft Technet forums, so I'm pretty sure its legit (and before you ask, I do have a key from an old laptop I'm going to throw out, but I haven't gotten to that point yet). Has anyone else run into this issue, and is there any way to make Windows 7 work on my HP?

Couple things to try maybe:

Updated the bios first

Revert back to uefi and install win7 in uefi mode by pressing the f-key that corresponds to "Select boot device" during startup and then select the UEFI DVD or UEFI USB (whichever corresponds to your boot media)

Contact HP for win7 Factory Restore Disk Set. You might want to ask them about the key while you got them on the phone.

Thanks to everyone who replied!
I redownloaded the iso on my old computer and made another Windows 7 install disk, but it crashed in UEFI mode and had the same problem as the old one in legacy mode. So I put Linux Mint on the HP and that worked. (One of the big reasons for this exercise was that I wanted a computer that could dual-boot to Windows and Linux, and I've heard 8 doesn't like that). I think I'll get an actual retail copy of 7 when I have some spare cash, do some more fun reinstalls, and chalk this up as a lesson in the value of recovery disks and the non-value of finding windows isos on the internet.
