hey guys im planning to build a budget gaming pc. which do you think is the better choice. i'll play mostly titanfall and bf4.. maybe crysis series but im only playing on a 1366x768 reso. i've seen benchmarks that the g3258 beat the 6300 and i3. i just dont know if it is legit. i also saw video on youtube that a oc'd g3258 handle bf4 nicely, but likewise, i also dont know if he really used an intel g3258. what do you think guys? thanks

More about : intel g3258 6300

Usually if someone says their machine is running XYZ specs I have no reason to doubt them. The G3258 is certainly an interesting option on the budget gaming PC arena, and based on all of the reviews and in-game benchmarks that I've seen it is certainly justified.

My recommendation is the Intel.

I'd be far happier going with an i3 than the pentium. You'd still need a decent cooler and Z97 board to get that kind of overclock, all of which adds to the cost. Since you're on a budget, that should be a concern.

You might want to read Tom's G3258 cheap build experiment.

I have experimented with a G3258 and find that 4.4 is not a problem with a fair cooler.

It turns out that most games depend on having one or two fast cores. More than 3 or 4 does not help much.

Toms used a $60 msi H81M-P33 V2 which allowed overclocking.
I would prefer to use a more conventional Z97 which would allow unlimited future upgrades. including 14nm broadwell.
Here is one for $80:

For a budget build, you are probably looking at a $150 graphics card like a GTX750ti or R7-265/270.
Those cards do not need much power; 400-450w. But, I suggest buying a 600-650w psu up front to provide for a future graphics card upgrade. It should not cost much more.

well board makers made a solution for that. you can already use h81 and b85 boards to overclock the pentium.

is it a better choice to go with an msi b85 g43 gaming motherboard. since that is xfire capable, better power phase, etc. or should i stick with a z97 board?

It is not necessary to buy a expensive motherboard for g3258. I have MSI h81m-p33 and I am able to overclock my 3258 from 3200Mhz to 4200Mhz (stock cooler, stock voltage).
I can say this: g3258 > fx6300 in many games because only a few games benefits of multiple cores.
