Sorry if this is not the right section. I am a new poster here and am not quite sure where this goes.

Had a power outage. Went and hit the circuit breaker, came back and was unable to boot into windows (7). PC shut down the moment windows tried to boot and the progress bar moved. I was able to boot into safe mode but unable to attempt system restore.

I tried setting my bios to defaults and that didn't help (though that was more due to me being unable to activate the right boot drive). Restored the settings to whatever i was using before.

Air cleaned it out and PC didn't even bother starting after that. Eventually got a temp PSU to troubleshoot and i was able to boot to windows this time. But now now I magically only have half the ram I had before (32 > 16). While in the bios, i also saw that my two slots said they had 8g each. I also have a new screen after the very first boot screen. Something about intel boot agent, and it shows my mac address while it tries to load. Also, the very initial boot screen as well as this boot agent screen take quite a long time. Booting up to windows never took this long before.

And naturally, with just 16g of ram, doing normal things while in windows is slower. To compound that, i loaded up a game to see how slow it would be, and while it was surprisingly fine, my PSU's fan started whirring really loudly before i closed the game.

Soooo, yeah, any ideas or thoughts? Also, some other notes:

- windows 7, intel i7-3770k, 3.5ghz. I believe it's all stock settings but my friend built the pc so he might have tinkered with that. I would bet also that he definitely optimized the ram settings, but other than reloading whatever bios settings i was using before the crash, i didn't touch a damn thing.

- I pulled out my second vid card for the time being. My previous PSU was 850w, and this current one is 550. I don't plan on keeping this one and will go shopping for a new PSU today.

- For a long while now i've had the infamous "display driver has stopped working" screen crash issue. Usually would happen when opening certain youtube vids or vines or sites with short video clips/ads. I don't know if this is related to the PSU or maybe signs of it going bad, but just throwing it out there because my fans would start going hard every time i had the screen crash.

- update: ram stuff here. just reading off the stick so bear with me if there's unnecessary info.
F3-1600C9D-16GAR
Gskill Ares DDR3-1600. CL9-9-9-24 1.50v
PC3-12800 8Gx2 Intel XMP ready

- Also i just set everything to default in the bios successfully this time. Ram still read out the same but i got past the intel boot agent screen and loaded up windows almost instantly.

Would appreciate any help. I can look up/screenshot/provide details of whatever else if necessary. Thanks!

Well a new PSU is in order... unfortunately when PSU's fail they sometimes take other parts with it.
