Help I'm frustrated: i5 4460 or i5 4590 for gaming / multitasking

They have about a $20 difference in the market and would like to know if it's worth to put that extra $20 for future proofing maybe? I'll be using a H97 motherboard with a Seasonic S12ii 520W
and no GPU yet (waiting for 800series to match the i5) or maybe chug in a GTX 750Ti in my budget which is about $650-700

Very little performance difference for the 100MHz that the 4590 has extra so hardly worth the $20.

There actually is about a 5-10% difference. Here's some benchmarks:

Notice how the Single Thread Rating is an extra 150 points or so, and the total score is about 700 points higher. I would say if you want to use this PC for a long time without any upgrades, it is well worth spending a bit extra for the 4590.

That only applies to CPU intensive tasks, in gaming they will be nearly identical.

True, but the fact is, it is a better choice if the OP wants to use the same CPU for a long time. Its a more powerful CPU.

Yes, both would work nearly identically excellent for high-end gaming for years to come, but if the OP doesn't want to upgrade for 4 years or something, spending an extra $20 now may bring you a lot more FPS in the CPU intensive games of the future in a half decade.
