The Pentium seems to suffer from massive stutter issues in games as compared to the Athlon. There are several reviews that show this problem, even at high clock rates. High frame rates mean nothing if it lags and stutters constantly. But that really doesn't matter if you plan to upgrade as the 1150 platform will give you a better upgrade path than FM2+ will at this time, at least for high end gaming. If you want a cheap platform now and don't want to upgrade it any time soon, the Athlon would be a better choice. There is a new Athlon coming out very soon which is a Kaveri CPU, too. I'd go for the Pentium in your given scenario for the flexibility of that platform, but in my opinion you'd be better off saving a bit longer and just buying an or I5 rather than buying the Pentium only to retire it.
