Is it worth the upgrade? FX-8350 < FX-9590

I was just wondering if purchasing the FX-9590 would be worth the investment as I've read on the internet that the Fx-9590 is just an overclocked FX-8350!? I've tried to overclock my CPU as I am running a custom water cooling system, but no luck... Prime95 would crash every time I ran the benchmark process. I play a lot of games, and my PC specs are in the right hand corner.

prime doesn't like fx cpus... don't use that as your measuring stick. My own fx8320 crashes prime at any clock speed over 4.5ghz... it doesn't matter what settings i use it won't pass a prime burn. I had to use Intel Burn Test -AVX to stability test my system past that point.

And yes... the 9590 is just an overclocked 8350... so no... i'd say work on your overclock... get it up to 4.7ghz or so, and you'll be set.

You can overclock most 8350's lots. But you have to work to get it right. You have to dial your overclock back and overclock, stress test, overclock, stress test till you find your sweet spot with voltages, heat, ram speed and timings, etc....It can take weeks to get it right. A 9590 will only worsen your problems. They suck more juice, emit more heat. Lastly they tend to have ZERO headroom. Also, I hope you are overclocking thru the bios and not some crap overclocking app.

Prime95 doesn't like FX cpu's? Tell that to the thousands of accomplished overclockers who use it as the gold standard of stability testing. Including the Stilt. Your overclock isn't truly stable so you don't like it. Lol!

congratz to "the stilt". prime95 doesn't like FX cpus. I stand by that statement. Not only from personal experience but this is a common issue with prime95 and piledriver. do a google search you'll see what i'm saying. Don't get me wrong... I've used prime95 for overclock stress testing many pcs... my own included. I've used it to stress the best FX cpu i've ever seen (a fx6300, we got it up to 5.7ghz prime stable)... but there are many fx cpus that can't pass a prime burn at any speed...

My own fx8320 won't pass one over 4.5ghz... i think i'm a pretty competent overclocker... my own fx8320 was the first piledriver i had this problem with. I had to look it up cause i was so frustrated it wouldn't even run 4 seconds before all 8 cores failed no matter what settings i used. It was then i discovered the prime95 doesn't play nice with many piledrivers.

Don't know why, don't care why. It just doesn't work on mine.

So i had to find another stability test. IBT-AVX worked fine. My system most certainly is rock stable. once i stabilized for 20 passes of the highest stress setting on IBT-AVX, my system has never crashed due to instability. Considering all the stress i put on the cpu I'd say it's a good overclock.

Stilt is only the best in the world. The overclocker who both Intel and AMD give early engineering samples to and actually consult.

as i said... good for the stilt. i just know my cpu is rock stable and yet it won't pass a 3 second prime burn. Gotta be a prime issue. I've only been overclocking cpus for 20+ years now.

up until this chip i would have bet on prime being the best stability test out there. never had this issue before. had to learn all about it. apparently there is a patch out there that will make prime work with piledriver cpus... i haven't tried it. maybe that's what the stilt uses? i don't know.
