I have a Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD4-B3 and I'm trying to upgrade my ram to Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3 2133 MHz, which is supported. But whether I use the BIOS profile (XMP) or set the standard timing manually I always get a failed boot. Any ideas how to get it running?

CPU is Intel i7 2600K

Solution
Make sure the voltage to the DRAM is correct. Is your CPU overclocked? If not, you may need to apply a slight overclock to get the DRAM working right.

Edit: You can also try setting it to a lower speed in BIOS to boot, then try to manually bring it up to it's full OC speed.

Whats the best way to bring it up manually after a successful boot at 1333MHz?

3.4GHZ, When enabling XPM profile I've selected both Yes and No to 'Should it speed up the CPU too?' both resulted in a failed boot.

I think you might need to bump your memory controller voltage a fraction, but first if your DRAM voltage is set at 1.5, raise it to 1.65v. If it's already at 1.65, try dropping it to 1.5V and see if it boots. If it does, use CPUID to check the effective speed.
